Gospel Singer, Timileyin Ajayi, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the High Court II in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for killing Ms. Salome Adaidu, a graduate serving Nigeria in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
He had been arrested in January after being caught with the head of Adaidu in a polythene bag at the Agwan Sarki, Orozo, a border area between Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Justice Simon Aboki on Thursday pronounced Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide punishable by death, in line with Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
In January, Ajayi had confessed to killing Adaidu brutally in a fit of anger, after she allegedly cheated on him.
“I didn’t plan to kill her. She is always cheating, she hides most things from me. I discovered she was cheating when I saw her phone, so, I got angry seeing her chat with other guys, and that’s why I killed her,” Ajayi said.
The Gospel Singer was charged with culpable homicide punishable by death. But he later pleaded not guilty to the charge.
During interrogation, Ajayi confessed to the crime and claimed that he had dated the deceased for one year before her death.
However, the deceased’s family countered Ajayi’s claim, saying their daughter was never the girlfriend of the Gospel Singer.
Timileyin Ajayi, who was on 17 January 2025, appeared in Nasarawa High Court II for the killing of Salome Adaidu and cutting her body into pieces, but luck ran out of him as he was arrested by the police.
The victim, Salome Adaidu, who was 24 years old, was, before her death, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) attached to NICON Insurance in Abuja.
