Hausa Community In Jos Tells Own Story On Terrorists Palm Sunday Kiliings In Plateau
HAUSA COMMUNITY SECURITY ENHANCEMENT COMMITTEE
OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Date: 30th March, 2026
Official Statement on the Brutal and Unjustifiable Anguwan Rukuba Incident, Jos North, Plateau State
The Hausa Community Security Enhancement Committee issues this objective and fact-based statement to clarify and responsibly present the true narrative surrounding the tragic incident that occurred at Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North, Plateau State.
Available credible accounts indicate that the violence was a criminal, inhuman, and unprovoked gun attack carried out by approximately four armed assailants. The attackers reportedly opened fire indiscriminately on civilians—men and women of different faiths, including Muslims and Christians—before fleeing the scene.
This act was clearly premeditated, targeted at innocent civilians, and designed to instill fear, provoke chaos, and trigger retaliatory violence within the community.
Tragically, the attack resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, affecting individuals with no connection whatsoever to any conflict. This reinforces the need to recognize the incident as a criminal act rather than a communal or religious confrontation.
Secondary Violence and Escalation
Following the initial attack, there were disturbing developments involving illegal road blockades and reprisal attacks on innocent road users, including commuters and passersby, with no link to the incident.
Individuals perceived to be “others” were brutally attacked, with some victims reportedly killed, mutilated, or burnt.
The Committee strongly emphasizes that:
Such actions are unlawful and deeply dangerous
They compound the tragedy and widen the scope of victimhood
They risk misrepresenting the incident as communal or religious violence, which it is not
We urge all residents to resist any urge for retaliation and allow security agencies to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.
Concern Over Emerging Threat Patterns
There are growing concerns regarding reports of suspected foreign elements or organized criminal mercenaries allegedly linked to multiple violent incidents across Plateau State and beyond. While these claims require thorough verification by security agencies, emerging patterns suggest the possibility of coordinated efforts to destabilize communities and incite division and chaos.
We call on relevant authorities to:
Thoroughly investigate these patterns
Strengthen intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination
Ensure the swift identification and prosecution of perpetrators
Government and Security Response
The Committee commends the Plateau State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, as well as all security agencies, for their proactive and timely response in containing the situation and preventing further escalation.
We further call on the State Government to sustain the 24-hour curfew for as long as possible to allow tempers to cool and normalcy to fully return.
Their commitment to maintaining peace, order, and public safety is acknowledged and appreciated.
Role of the Committee
The Hausa Community Security Enhancement Committee, in collaboration with stakeholders, continues to play a critical role in:

Protecting lives and property

This multi-layered approach is essential for long-term peace, trust-building, and security stabilization across communities.
Safety Guidelines for Citizens
In light of recent developments, residents are advised to observe the following safety measures:
At Home and Within Neighbourhoods
Watch over your children
Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings
Report unusual movements or unfamiliar individuals
Strengthen community watch systems
Avoid spreading unverified or inflammatory information
In Public Spaces (Markets, Motor Parks, Hospitals)
Be aware of exit routes and safe zones
Avoid overcrowded areas where possible
Report suspicious packages or unusual behavior
Keep emergency contacts readily accessible on Roads, Streets, and Highways
Avoid unauthorized roadblocks or gatherings

General Conduct

Conclusion
The Anguwan Rukuba incident must be clearly understood and addressed as a premeditated criminal act carried out by unidentified assailants—not as a reflection of interfaith or inter-community conflict. Any narrative suggesting otherwise only serves the interests of those seeking to divide and destabilize society.
The Committee calls on all citizens, leaders, and stakeholders to remain calm, vigilant, and united in the collective pursuit of peace and justice.
We pray that Almighty God protects our communities, exposes those behind these heinous acts, and grants Jos North, Plateau State, and Nigeria lasting peace and stability.
