The House of Representatives has passed a resolution to direct the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the distribution companies (DISCOs) to reverse the tariff hike for Band A class of consumers.
The Lower Legislature arrived at the conclusion on Tuesday after the adoption of a report presented by the House of Representatives Committee on Power.
In May, consumers were told by NERC there would be a hike affecting so-called Band A customers, who henceforth paid N225 per kilowatt, a move met with wide condemnation.
The House also resolved to probe the tariff hike pending an investigation.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee on Power, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, submitted that Nigerians could not afford the new tariff.
According to him, the committee recommended that NERC and DISCOs should revert to status quo.
The recommendations were adopted by the Committee of the Whole House, after which it was passed.
