A viral, unverified video circulating on social media appears to show a group of Nigerian soldiers receiving medical attention after coming under attack while allegedly travelling to rescue schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State.

The footage, which has not been independently verified by security agencies, shows uniformed personnel with visible injuries being treated and assisted by colleagues.

Nigerian news sites that shared the clip said the ambush occurred as troops were deploying to track the gunmen who stormed the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

The reports gave no firm casualty toll and there has been no immediate, official confirmation from the Army or the Nigeria Police Force about the ambush itself.

The attack on the school on November 17, saw armed men enter the premises before dawn and take dozens of students.

Some 25 girls were initially reported abducted, with some later escaping, and that a school staff member was killed during the raid.

Security forces and local vigilantes launched search operations immediately after the abduction.

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, travelled to Kebbi and ordered troops to intensify operations to locate the missing students and bring those responsible to justice.

At the time of writing, authorities were yet to issue a full account of the alleged ambush shown in the video, including the number of injured and whether the attack affected the broader rescue operation.

Family members of the abducted pupils, community leaders and state officials have called for urgent action and clearer information from security forces.
