Following advice by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, the Magistrates Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba area of Lagos has discharged and acquitted some of those accused of complicity in the death of famous Afrobeat Singer Mohbad.
Those freed by the court on Tuesday February 25 included fellow singer and Mohbad’s record label boss, Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and his associate, Samson Balogun Eletu aka Sam Larry.
Also exonerated were Owodunni Ibrahim aka Primeboy and Mohbad’s manager, Opere Babatunde, concerning the case over the death of Aloba Oladimeji lleriOluwa also known as Mohbad.
Mohbad died in controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023.
Following the death, Naira Marley and Sam Larry were accused of bullying the singer while he was alive.
They were then arrested and charged to court by the police.
Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, who read and implemented the legal advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) Lagos, said that they had no case to answer about the unfortunate demise of the late singer.
The DPP, however, said it shall be prosecuting the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe and one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq for the offence of reckless and negligent acts contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law, Ch C.17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The duo will be facing trial at the Magistrate Court.
