Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, has submitted his resignation as Labour Minister to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and will be taking his place in the Senate as the Plateau South Senator.
Tinubu has since accepted the resignation of Lalong, Presidency aides have said.
Confirming this, a Twitter user in the President’s camp, Imran Mohammad said: “President Tinubu, accepted Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, Resignation from the cabinet, his valedictory will hold next FEC meeting.”
A former two-term Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and Governor, Lalong contested the February Presidential poll as the Director-General of the Tinubu Campaign Organisation but was initially declared the loser by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, the Court of Appeal lately ruled in his favour, overturning the verdict of the election tribunal, that earlier confirmed the election of Air Vice Marshall Napoleon Bali of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Lalong tendered his resignation after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.
He received his Certificate of Return following the Court of Appeal’s order that INEC issue him the certificate.
