Ambassador Mary Nanwor Lar, wife of former Plateau State’s Governor Solomon Lar, has clocked 90 years of age on May 17.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent a congratulatory message to the Professor, a famous educationist and onetime Nigerian ambassador to the Netherlands, on her 90th birthday.
The President extolled the nonagenarian for her pace-setting contributions to education, diplomacy, and nation-building.
Born May 15 1935, in Langtang, Plateau State, Prof Lar is a famous teacher who dedicated much of her life to teaching and shaping generations of young Nigerians.
After years of service at various government secondary schools, she moved her illustrious career to the University of Jos, where she excelled, becoming the first female professor from Northern Nigeria.
The President prayed the Almighty God to bless the don with good health so she could continue impacting lives through her community services.
Her husband, Solomon Lar, died on 9th October 2013 at an American hospital after a long illness, aged 80.
The Nigerian politician was a member of the first national Parliament when Nigeria gained Independence in 1960.
He was elected first civilian Governor of Plateau State on the Nigerian People’s Party (NPP) platform during the Nigerian Second Republic, holding office from October 1979 until the Military coup of 31st December 1983 that brought General Muhammadu Buhari to power.
At the advent of the current Fourth Republic, he was founding Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which won the presidential election with former General Olusegun Obasanjo.
