The Labour Party (LP) reports that its National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, survived a mysterious fire outbreak at his Abuja home.
The house was completely burnt down, LP said in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, on Wednesday, the same day the fire broke out.
LP’s report calls the fire an assassination attempt on Abure, who has been engaged in a running battle with a faction led by former Deputy National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other interests that want him out of the seat.
According to Ifoh, Abure’s residence was gutted by the mysterious fire that broke out past 1am on Wednesday, while the politician and his family were asleep.
Neighbours and security men living in the compound raised the alarm to draw the attention of Abure and his sleeping household to the raging fire.
“The entire family were trapped as the inferno had reached the staircase, making it impossible for Abure and family to escape,” Obiora said in the statement.
“However, it took divine intervention for the national chairman and his family to escape after neighbours and security men gallantly pulled down one of the windows upstairs, making ways for the family to escape.
“Men of the Fire Service arrived shortly after Abure and his family were evacuated.
“Abure and his family were rushed to a private hospital where they are presently receiving treatment. Their condition is stable.”
