The Owa of Ogbagi in Ondo State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Victor Olasehinde Adetona, on Friday escaped what has been described as an assassination attack by a man identified as Tope Adelani from Aala quarters.
Sources said the suspect had earlier approached the monarch at the palace seeking employment as a driver.
Oba Adetona reportedly informed him that there was no current vacancy but assured him that he would be contacted when an opportunity became available.
It was gathered that shortly after this interaction, the monarch left the palace for his farm while the young man remained within the palace premises.
Upon the monarch’s return, the suspect allegedly trailed him into the palace, seized his two mobile phones, and switched them off—apparently to prevent him from calling for help.
The situation escalated when the suspect reportedly launched an attack on the monarch.
During the struggle, Oba Adetona sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment from medical personnel as of the time of filing this report.
A knife was reportedly recovered from the suspect following the incident, raising further concerns about the intent and severity of the attack.
