The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear an appeal filed by Sen. David Mark, the embattled National Chairman, African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Mark is seeking an order staying the execution of the March 12 judgment of the Court of Appeal.
The apex court, in a hearing notice with appeal number: SC/CV/180/2026 between Sen. Mark vs Hon. Nafiu-Bala Gombe and four others, said the proceeding is scheduled for April 14.
The hearing notice, sent to the parties in the case through the Litigation Department of the Supreme Court on Friday was sighted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
The hearing date coincides with the date earlier fixed by the trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja.
Although the two cases will be coming up on Tuesday, NAN learnt that the lower court may, however, step down the matter or adjourn its matter pending the hearing at the apex court, in line with the superiority of courts.
Mark, the appellant in the appeal, had named Hon. Nafiu-Bala Gombe, ADC, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Chief Ralp Nwosu as 1st to 5th respondents respectively.
Mark, in the motion on notice filed by his lawyer, Realwan Okpanachi, prayed the court for an order of stay of execution of the appellate court’s judgment pending the hearing and determination of his appeal.
He also sought an order restraining INEC from acting on the Appeal Court’s judgment by recognising any person(s) other than him and the existing national officers of ADC, pending the hearing and determination of his appeal.
Mark, the former Senate president, further prayed the apex court for an order, restraining INEC from tampering with the national leadership structure of the party as presently constituted and represented by him, pending the hearing and determination of the appeal.
Besides, he sought an order staying further proceedings in suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, pending before Justice Nwite, the trial judge, at FHC, pending the hearing and determination of his appeal at the apex court.
The motion on notice was brought by his lawyer pursuant to Sections 6(6)(a) and 233 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended); Order 4, Rule 1 of the Supreme Court’s Rules 7074 and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.
Giving 12-ground argument, Okpanachi said the Court of Appeal delivered judgment in appeal number: CA/ABJ/CV/145/2026 on March 12.
He said Mark, being dissatisfied with the said judgment, filed a notice of appeal to the Supreme Court on March 16 and the record of appeal was duly compiled and transmitted on March 31.
According to the lawyer, the appeal has been duly entered before this honourable court as appeal number: SC/CV/180/2026.
He said one of the orders made by the Appeal Court was that parties should maintain status quo ante bellum.
“The 1st respondent (Gombe) has been relying on the said order to write to the 4th respondent (INEC), urging it to refrain from dealing with or recognising the appellant (Mark) and other national officers of the 2nd respondent (ADC).
“The actions of the 1st respondent (Gombe) amount to attempted enforcement of the judgment of the Court of Appeal,” he said.
The lawyer, however, said Mark had filed a competent appeal, challenging the entire judgment of the Court of Appeal.
“Unless this application is granted, the judgment of the Court of Appeal will be enforced and the appeal rendered nugatory.”
Okpanachi, who submitted that the appeal had raised substantial and arguable issues of law, stated that the balance of justice favours the grant of the application.
“It is in the interest of justice to preserve the res and protect the authority of this honourable court,” he prayed.
NAN reports that INEC had, on April 1, removed the names of Mark and Aregbesola from its official portal and website as ADC’s national chairman and national secretary respectively, following the Appeal Court’s judgement.
In reaction to INEC’s decision, Mark filed a motion on notice before Justice Nwite on April 7 by his new lawyer, Sulaiman Usman, SAN, praying the court to order the commission to restore their names as it were, prior to the institution of the suit by Gombe.
He also sought an order for accelerated hearing of the case and the judge fixed April 14 for hearing.
NAN reports that Gombe, in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, at the FHC had sued ADC, Mark, Aregbesola, INEC and Nwosu as 1st to 5th defendants respectively.
Nwosu was the former ADC National Chairman who stepped down for David Mark leadership.
Gombe, who was former National Deputy Chairman of ADC, had urged Justice Nwite to restrain Mark and Aregbesola from further parading themselves as national chairman and national secretary of the party.
The aggrieved ex-deputy national chairman had argued that the emergence of Mark and Aregbesola as party’s leaders breached the provisions of the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
The judge had, on Sept. 4, 2025, declined to grant an ex-parte motion filed by Gombe, seeking to stop Mark-led leadership of the ADC, pending the hearing of his substantive suit.
Nwite had refused the three prayers sought in the ex-parte motion filed by Gombe and moved by his lawyer, Michael Agber.
Rather, the judge had directed Gombe, the plaintiff in the suit, to put all the defendants on notice to show cause why the motion should not be granted.
The judge then adjourned the matter until Sept. 15, 2025, for the defendants to show cause.
However, the Mark-led ADC approached the court of appeal, challenging the lower court’s jurisdictional power to hear the suit and the appellate court ordered the parties to go back to the trial court and maintained status quo ante bellum pending the determination of the case.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Bindul-Jilli market bombed by NAF is the ISWAP logistics base, terrorists targeted, obliterated
By Hamza Suleiman/NAN
The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) has neutralised scores of terrorists and destroyed their operational assets in Jilli, Gubio Local Government Area of Borno.
Lt Col Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Maiduguri.
Uba said that the airstrike had successfully hit a major Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) logistics hub.
The media information officer stated that the operation was conducted on Saturday, following a sustained Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission over the Bindul–Jilli axis.
According to him, Bindul-Jilli is a major terrorist movement corridor and convergence point for insurgents and their collaborators.
“On 11 April 2026, multiple reports were received of ISWAP gun trucks and motorcycles moving along the axis. Consequently, ISR coverage was intensified.
“During the surveillance mission, a contingent of motorcycles was observed moving in the direction of Jilli, followed shortly by additional vehicles, all converging on the same location,” he said.
Uba said that the movements were corroborated by credible human intelligence sources, confirming that the converging elements were terrorists, collaborators and logistics handlers.
The media information officer said that after rigorous target validation, the Air Component executed a series of precision strikes on the enclave, achieving high accuracy.
“Post-strike assessment confirmed that the target area was struck with high accuracy, destroying the identified terrorist logistics enclave.
“Scores of terrorists were neutralised in the strike, with their vehicles and technicals destroyed, while surviving elements were observed fleeing in multiple directions,” he said.
Uba added that intelligence indicated the neutralised elements were in the final stages of receiving logistics supplies for coordinated attacks on troop locations within the Gubio axis before the strike disrupted their plans.
The media information officer recalled that the Bindul–Jilli corridor had been linked to previous attacks, including a January Improvised Explosive Device (IED) incident along the Gubio–Damasak road which claimed the lives of eight soldiers, as well as coordinated attacks in Ngamdu and Benisheik on April 9.
He further disclosed that on April 12, troops arrested a suspected ISWAP logistics courier identified as “Turja Bulu” in Ngamdu.
“Upon preliminary investigation, he confessed to taking part in the attack on the 29 Brigade location at Benisheik and was dispatched from Jilli to deliver food items to another group of terrorists hibernating within the Magumeri–Gubio general area,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it conducted follow-up mop-up airstrikes on fleeing insurgents and regrouping elements within the Jilli axis to consolidate gains from the initial operation.
In a statement, the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said that the action underscored the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint operations.
“The mission was conducted as part of a coordinated air-ground integration operation with the Nigerian Army, following an earlier successful engagement that effectively decimated terrorist positions in the area.
“The follow-on strikes were aimed at fleeing remnants and regrouping cells seeking to exploit the difficult terrain,” Ejodame said.
He added that the sustained strikes were part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement, prevent attacks on security forces and protect civilian populations.
Also, the Yobe Government further clarified reports alleging that residents of the Geidam council area were directly targeted in the airstrike.
In a statement by the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Gov. Mai Mala Buni, Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the government said the operation was conducted on a known Boko Haram stronghold in Jilli, Gubio council area of Borno.
He said that some residents of Geidam, which borders the area, had visited the Jilli weekly market and were affected by the strike.
“They have been evacuated to Geidam Specialist Hospital and are responding to treatment,” Abdulsalam said.
He reiterated that Jilli remained an insurgent-controlled enclave with no legitimate civilian presence, describing it as a “no man’s land” used for logistics, coordination and staging of attacks.
Abdulsalam also restated that the use of motorcycles remains prohibited across the North-east operational theatre due to their continued use by terrorist elements.
He, however, assured residents of sustained operations to dismantle terrorist enclaves and restore lasting peace in the region.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Enugu State Chapter on Saturday conducted two parallel congresses, with two separate state chairmen and executives emerging.
The parallel congresses, which were held at different venues, saw the emergence of Retired Maj.-Gen. Chris Eze as the Chairman, while Prof. Austine Akulue emerged as the chairman in the other faction.
The two congresses were held at different venues within Enugu metropolis and both chairmen hailed from the Enugu North Senatorial District, where the chairmanship is zoned to.
In his acceptance speech, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Eze said he would take the ADC in Enugu State to a higher level.
He said that leading ADC in Enugu State was a serious responsibility bestowed on him and his team but assured the party faithful that they would overcome.
The retired general promised to run the party with “absolute integrity, incorruptibility, and transparency.”
“I will not accept any inducement from any source whatsoever to do anything that will negatively impact the party.
“I will not spare any member of the party’s executive at any level in Enugu State who accepts such inducement,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state’s Chairperson of the party, Mrs Stella Chukwuma, has distanced herself and her executives from the congresses.
Speaking to NAN on the parallel congresses, Chukwuma maintained that the ADC congresses in Enugu State remained suspended and anything other than that was none of her business.
“That is the only thing I can say for now,” she said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

Gunmen Kill Imo Traditional Ruler, Security Operatives by chopnaira: 2:12pm On Apr 12
Gunmen on Friday night killed the traditional ruler of Ochia, Paulinus Ekwueme, alongside security operatives in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
The attackers ambushed the monarch at the boundary of Assa and Ochia communities after he returned from a trip abroad earlier in the week.
Imo State Police Command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed the killing of the monarch, adding that security operatives had been deployed to ensure the area was safe.
A source said the late monarch had just returned from a trip abroad during the week only to be ambushed and killed by gunmen at the boundary of Assa and Ochia community.
The source privy to the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity said some security operatives in his convoy were also shot dead, though he could not confirm the number of casualties.
He said the monarch had allegedly left the community following a fracas with some people there and was heading home when he was attacked.
The source alleged that the monarch and the security operatives were set ablaze after the killing, adding that the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area had been thrown into mourning.
He said, “It was a well-planned and well-executed attack; someone must have given out the information that he was returning to the village on Friday. The incident happened at the boundary of Assa and Ochia community in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.
“Our Eze had been abroad. He only arrived in Owerri on Friday and was heading to the village when he was attacked and killed. We were told that they were set ablaze by the gunmen. Everybody is scared and mourning”.
Okoye, who confirmed the killing of the monarch, said the state Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, had upon learning of the incident ordered the immediate deployment of the tactical team throughout the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area to maintain calm and safety.
Okoye said, “Yes, I am fully aware of the killing of the traditional ruler but I do not have all the details for now, so I cannot confirm the number of casualties.
“Already, the Imo State CP, Audu Garba Bosso, has deployed the tactical team to commence investigation to identify the perpetrators of this dastardly act.
“The CP has also deployed enough security operatives to hunt down the killers. And I assure you that we will fish them out no matter where they are hiding.”

So, there you have it, the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not. Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz. At some point, we will reach an “ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT” basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen by merely saying,”There may be a mine out there somewhere,” that nobody knows about but them. THIS IS WORLD EXTORTION, and Leaders of Countries, especially the United States of America, will never be extorted. I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL! Iran

Over 50 Killed In ‘Accidental Bombing’ At Borno–Yobe Border Market by iwaeda: 2:10pm On Apr 12
No fewer than 56 people, mostly traders, are feared dead, while 14 others have been hospitalized following an airstrike on a weekly market along the Borno–Yobe border.
The incident occurred at Jilli Market, located between Gubio and Geidam Local Government Areas of Borno and Yobe states, on Saturday.
Smart Video
The airstrike was suspected to have been carried out during a military operation targeting suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
The weekly market usually attracts traders and buyers from surrounding communities, including Gubio, Chiweram, and Benisheikh in Borno State, as well as Gurokayeya and Geidam in Yobe State.
Multiple sources said the fighter jet that carried out the operation was tracking a group of suspected insurgents believed to have visited the market to collect levies from traders and obtain supplies. However, the strike reportedly missed its intended target.
An eyewitness said at least 56 people have been confirmed dead, while 14 others are receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital in Geidam, Yobe State.
“The incident happened around 2:46 p.m. while business activities were ongoing. Four fighter jets carried out the attack, though the fourth jet was not clearly visible. We only heard the sound of explosions.
“I counted 56 corpses myself and helped rescue two injured people, taking them to the hospital. I believe the number of casualties may be higher, as more bodies are still being recovered,” the source said.
When contacted, the councillor of Fichimaram Ward, Malam Lawan Zanna, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, stating that about 20 people had been admitted to the Specialist Hospital in Geidam.
“The incident occurred at Jilli village’s weekly market under Fichimaram Ward in Geidam LGA. From the information available to us, it was an airstrike.
“When the jets launched their attack, people panicked and began to run, but the strikes continued. As we speak, over 30 people have been killed.
“More than 20 people were hospitalized in Geidam. Two were referred to the Teaching Hospital in Damaturu. Out of those receiving treatment, nine have died, bringing the death toll to over 30,” he said.
The Special Adviser to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Abdulsalam Dahiru (rtd), confirmed the incident, but said it occurred within Borno State.
“I have spoken with the chairman of Geidam Local Government, who informed me that Jilli village falls under Gubio LGA of Borno State. You may contact officials in Maiduguri for further details,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Nigerian Air Force regarding the incident.

Mikel Arteta said Arsenal must not use fatigue as an excuse following their defeat against Bournemouth as he challenged his players to rediscover their “enjoyment” of the game.
Arsenal missed a golden opportunity to move 12 points clear of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City after they produced a dismal display in a 2-1 loss to the Cherries at the Emirates.
The defeat marked Arsenal’s third-in-a-row on the domestic stage after their Carabao Cup final loss to City and shock FA Cup exit at Championship side Southampton.
Arsenal will look to bounce back immediately in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Sporting Lisbon in London on Wednesday.
The fixture — with Arsenal holding a slender 1-0 advantage from the opening match — will be the north London club’s 54th of the season so far, just three more than City will have played.
Mikel Arteta needs his Arsenal team to bounce back after three defeats in four games in all competitions. Catherine Ivill – AMA/Getty Images
A number of Arteta’s players appeared to be off the pace in their defeat against Bournemouth with captain Martin Ødegaard, star winger Bukayo Saka and full-back Jurriën Timber all absent through injury.
– Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta: Bournemouth defeat a ‘big punch in the face’
– Viktor Gyökeres: Dry pitch ‘didn’t help’ Arsenal in Bournemouth defeat
– Pep Guardiola: Man City ‘know what to do’ in title race vs. Arsenal
But when asked if he sensed tiredness among his team, Arteta said:
“I don’t want to pull on those excuses because we’ve been playing so many games, every three days, and we’re going to have to continue to do that.
“That’s the context and that’s the scenario, and we have to embrace it and especially enjoy the opportunity.
“That’s one of the things that I didn’t see from the team, that level of enjoyment in certain moments and the fight that we have to have to really change the course of the game when it gets difficult.
“We’re going to have different contexts from here to June, and we need to be able to adapt and resolve all of them, if we want to achieve what we want to achieve.”
Viktor Gyökeres was one of only a handful of Arsenal players to leave Saturday’s defeat with any credit.
He scored a first-half penalty to take his tally to the season to 18.
Looking ahead to Arsenal’s second leg against his old side Sporting at the Emirates – with a possible semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain or Liverpool to come – Viktor Gyökeres said:
“We have a lot of important games ahead, and we need to embrace it and to enjoy playing those games.
“It’s a great game to have in a few days, so we just need to recover now, leave this behind and make a very good performance on Wednesday.”
CAC president urges christians to embrace resurrection message

The President of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Pastor Samuel Oladele, has called on Christians to embrace the message of the resurrection, saying it offers lasting hope in the face of global challenges.
Oladele made the assertion in his Easter message titled “The Gospel of the Resurrection,” drawn from 1 Corinthians 15 and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.
Reflecting on the current global situation, the CAC president observed that humanity was grappling with multiple and overlapping challenges, including wars, economic instability, rising insecurity and a growing moral decline.
He noted that these realities had continued to generate anxiety and despair among many, thereby underscoring the need for a message of hope that transcends temporal circumstances.
According to him, the resurrection of Christ remains that message; timeless, unchanging and capable of offering both present assurance and the promise of eternal life.
Oladele explained that news could broadly be categorised into three forms of “old news”, “new news” and “good news”.
He stressed that the resurrection of Jesus Christ stood uniquely as “good news” that never loses its relevance.
“Many of the things we celebrate today as achievements or breakthroughs may excite us for a moment, but they are often short-lived.
“Even if you are told that you will become the President of CAC or even the President of Nigeria, it is good news, but it will not last forever.
“The gospel of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is different; it is old, yet ever new, and eternally good,” he said.
The cleric further affirmed that the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ were not mere theological claims but events validated by Scripture and supported by historical witness accounts.
He described the resurrection as a decisive victory over sin, death and the forces of darkness, adding that the triumph had secured redemption and new life for all who believe.
Oladele emphasised that the enduring strength and resilience of the Christian faith were rooted in the reality of the risen Christ, noting that this foundation had sustained the Church across generations despite persecutions and trials.
He also reminded believers that the true identity of the Church was not tied to physical buildings or institutions but to the community of believers.
“The Church is not the physical structure. We, the believers in Christ, are the Church, and we will keep marching on.
“No matter the challenges confronting the world today, the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church,” he said.
Oladele urged Christians across the world to embrace, live out and boldly proclaim the message of the resurrection, stressing that it remained the ultimate source of hope not only for the present time but also for eternity.
He added that the message was relevant in times of crisis, as it reassures believers of God’s power over every situation and His promise of eternal victory.
Earlier in the programme, the Chaplain of CAC All Saints’ Chapel, Ibadan, Pastor Tunde Asokeji, recounted the origins of the Easter service, noting that it began in 2021 as a modest initiative but had since grown into a significant annual spiritual gathering.
Asokeji said the service had become a platform for deep spiritual reflection and vibrant worship, drawing participation from various CAC congregations across Ibadan and beyond.
He commended the collaborative efforts of choirs and young musicians, describing them as the backbone of the event’s musical expressions and spiritual atmosphere.
The service featured rich musical ministrations, including “Ladugbo” by CAC Music Director, Elder ’Bidemi Oyesanya (SAN); “I Don’t Know Why” by Andraé Crouch; and “Let All the Angels of God Worship Him” by George Frideric Handel.
Also featured was “O ti Jinde” by Dupe Aduroja Giwa, which added depth and solemnity to the celebration.(NAN)
