Nigeria today stands at a critical point in its democratic journey.
The increasing hardship faced by citizens, the rising insecurity, and the perceived decline in institutional trust have created a climate of frustration and uncertainty across the country.
Over the past several years, Nigeria has witnessed:
- A steady rise in inflation, which has eroded household incomes and reduced purchasing power for ordinary Nigerians.
- Widening unemployment rates, especially among young people, contributing to social vulnerability.
- Persistent security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, communal conflicts, and urban crime, which continue to threaten lives and economic activities.
- Inconsistent adherence to the rule of law, which has weakened public confidence in key institutions and the justice system.
These realities have pushed many Nigerians, particularly the youth towards desperate alternatives, including internet fraud, street begging, drug abuse, robbery, and other unsafe activities. These are symptoms of deeper economic and social distress that require urgent intervention.
As a nation, we cannot ignore these signs. They reflect not just policy shortcomings but the need for a renewed commitment to leadership that places people first.
We respectfully appeal to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the current administration to prioritize policies that:
1. Strengthen security infrastructure and intelligence coordination,
2. Provide targeted economic relief for struggling households,
3. Create sustainable job opportunities,
4. Rebuild public trust through transparency and respect for rule of law,
5. Invest in education and youth development, and
6. Support small businesses and critical sectors of the economy.
Despite the challenges we face, Nigerians must not lose hope. Our nation’s strength has always come from its people, their resilience, unity, and belief in a better future.
We encourage Nigerians to join hands with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in working toward national renewal and restoring the dignity, stability, and prosperity that our founding fathers such as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, awolowo, tafabalewe and other heroes of the independence era envisioned.
Nigeria can rise again with leadership that listens, leadership that serves, and leadership that puts citizens at the heart of national development.
