The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has described Ogun State as a trailblazer in developing technical education standards that reflect current and emerging industry demands.

This was disclosed during the official opening of a Critique and Validation Workshop for five National Technical Certificates (NTCs) and six National Occupational Standards (NOS) in Abeokuta , a process aimed at refining the national technical education framework.

Delivering the remarks on behalf of the NBTE Executive Secretary, Professor Idris Bugaje, the Director of Curriculum Development, Dr. Musa Koko, commended the state’s innovative strides under the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), emphasizing that Ogun is setting the pace for others in the technical and vocational education space.

Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Moriamo Oloko, represented by the Director of Curriculum, Mr. Temitope Lasilo, stated that Ogun State was proud to host a workshop of national importance. She noted that one of the occupational standards under review was Adire Making a culturally significant trade with growing global appeal and economic potential.

She urged participants drawn from industry, academia, government, and development sectors to bring both expertise and vision to the table in shaping a forward-looking curriculum that reflects the realities of the modern workforce.

Highlighting OGSTEP’s intervention, Project Coordinator Mrs. Mosunmola Owo-Odusi explained that the state’s eight technical colleges have witnessed extensive rehabilitation, with over 158 buildings upgraded and workshops and labs equipped to meet 21st-century training standards. She emphasized that the project also focuses on the “software” — the human element — through the retraining of instructors and alignment of non-formal training with NOS benchmarks.

Providing further insights, the Acting Executive Secretary of OGSTVEB, Mrs. Funmi Oyalowo, revealed that new trades such as Ornamental Construction, Agronomy Craft, Mechatronics, Embellishment Craft, Fashion/Textile Machine Repair, and Adire Making have been introduced to the curriculum. She credited OGSTEP’s support for infrastructure, equipment, and training as key drivers of the ongoing transformation.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of SUBEB, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, who previously served as Acting ES of OGSTVEB, applauded all contributors to the curriculum validation process. He encouraged participants to maintain their dedication and ensure that the final curriculum outcomes are robust, industry-relevant, and capable of driving sustainable development nationwide.
