Following the leadership crisis rocking Nigeria’s leading opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the authentic National Secretary of the party, about 60 security operatives, on Monday, took over the party’s Wadata plaza National Secretariat in Abuja.

Locked in an ongoing leadership tussle, Mr. Ude-Okoye and Senator Sam Anyanwu had vowed they would each be resuming as National Secretary on Monday at the National Headquarters.

Police and other security operatives this morning swung in to prevent any breakdown of peace at Wadata Plaza.

Also, protesters loyal to Senator Sam Anyanwu stormed the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, opposing the anticipated resumption of Sunday Ude-Okoye.

The protesters, gathered at the rear gate of the PDP’s Wadata Plaza headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, chanted slogans such as “No vacancy in the National Secretary’s office” and “Senator Sam Anyanwu remains the National Secretary.”

Security has been heightened at the premises, with additional police officers deployed to maintain order and prevent any disruption. A police lorry has been stationed outside the main gate, and personnel are working alongside the PDP’s regular security team to search workers and visitors before granting them entry into the building.
