The Nigeria Police Force has shot down reports circulating about the return of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) under a reformed set of rules.
Following the nationwide protests tagged #EndSARS against rights violation by the team, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari terminated the section of the police erstwhile dedicated against armed robbery.
In a statement titled “Disclaimer: SARS Remains Dissolved,” issued in Abuja on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi emphasized that SARS, disbanded on October 11, 2020, remains permanently dissolved.
He clarified: “The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation. The recent information regarding SARS reformation and rules of engagement should be treated with caution.”
ACP Adejobi urged Nigerians to verify information from credible sources: “To ensure receiving accurate and reliable updates, citizens are advised to follow the official handles of the Nigeria Police Force on social media: @PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.”
