President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed new members for the governing councils of the University of Abuja, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU).
The appointees include Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa, widow of Late Kaduna Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, Governor of Kaduna State from 2010 to 2012, who died in a helicopter crash on 15th December 2012, alongside the National Security Adviser General Owoye Andrew Azazi, while flying from Bayelsa State to Port Harcourt.

In February, President Tinubu dissolved the Governing Council of the University of Abuja and sacked the university’s vice-chancellor, Aisha Maikudi, amid controversy over her eligibility.
The new governing council members for UNIABUJA are:
- Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan – South South
- Dr. Adedeji Adefuye – South West
- Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir – North West
- Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku – North East
President Tinubu also filled the vacancies in the governing councils of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU).

- Muhammad Inuwa Tahir, mni – North West

DAME AMINA PATRICK YAKOWA
Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa is the widow of Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa and a retired Deputy Director with the Federal Civil Service. She is a mother of four and a grandmother.
Her husband, Patrick Yakowa, served as Governor of Kaduna State from 2010 to 2012. On 15th December 2012, Yakowa died in a helicopter crash alongside the National Security Adviser General Owoye Andrew Azazi, while flying from Bayelsa State to Port Harcourt.
They were returning from the funeral of the father of Oronto Douglas, an aide to President Jonathan.
He had first been appointed Deputy Governor of Kaduna State in July 2005, following the death of Stephen Shekari. He was elevated to be the Governor on 20 May 2010, replacing Governor Namadi Sambo who had been sworn in as Vice President to President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President who replaced the Late President Umar Yar’Adua.
Yakowa ran for election and won as Kaduna Governor in 2011 polls.
After Yakowa’s death, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, the Deputy Governor, was sworn-in as the new Governor.
