President Releases ₦2bn Relief Fund To Flood-Afflicted Mokwa, As VP Shettima Visits Niger State

The Federal Government has donated N2 billion and 20 truckloads of grains to the Niger State Government in response to the recent flood disaster in Mokwa.

The announcement was made Wednesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima during his condolence and tour of the flood-affected areas of Mokwa Local Government Area, accompanied by Niger State officials and local government representatives.

The Vice President personally inspected the extent of damage to residential areas, farmlands, and infrastructure that has been devastated by the severe flooding.

Shettima and the entourage embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas, after meeting families and victims of the flood disaster in Mokwa.

He assessed the extent of damage to infrastructure and agricultural lands in the town known as “the home of grains.”

His visit is part of the Federal Government’s @NigeriaGov immediate response to the flood disaster, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s @officialABAT directive to provide swift assistance to the affected residents.

He conveyed President Tinubu’s condolence messages and assurances to families affected by the natural disaster.

Earlier, President Tinubu had issued a statement expressing deep concern over the severe flooding, which has resulted in tragic loss of lives and displacement of families.

In his statement, President Tinubu announced the immediate activation of the National Emergency Response Centre and confirmed that he had been briefed by the National Emergency Management Agency (@nemanigeria) on the scale of the disaster.

He assured that search-and-rescue operations are ongoing, with all relevant federal agencies mobilised to support the state government’s efforts.
