President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has slashed the travel size of government officials in his administration by some 60 percent.
Presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed this while speaking to State House Correspondents, on Tuesday, January 9.
According to Ngelale, the decision was part of The Presidency’s cost-cutting measures.
He said that the decision would affect the offices of the President, Vice President, First Lady, Ministers and heads of agencies.
For foreign trips:
- President: 20 persons
- Vice President: 5 persons
- First Lady: 5 persons
- Ministers: 4 persons
- Chief Executive Officers: 2 persons
For local trips:
- President: 25 persons
- Vice President: 15 persons
- First lady: 10 persons
“President Bola Tinubu has directed that all state entourages be drastically reduced. This is not a request, it is a directive. The office of the president and staff will be affected. VP, appointees are affected. By this directive, there will be a slashing of expenditure on official travel by 60 percent,” he said.
The presidential spokesperson went on to state that as a result of the development, the President was limited to 20 staff outside the country.
He added that ministers were limited to four aides on any foreign trip.
Heads of agencies are limited to just two.
For any trip to the states, Ngelale said, Tinubu would no longer travel with huge security delegations.
According to the presidential spokesman, when the President travelled locally, the security paraphernalia in the host state would take care of his security
The same will arrangement will apply for local trips by the Vice President and other top government officials.
