With the tenure of the present People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) billed to end Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the pro-Nyesom Wike loyalists of the National Executive Committee (NEC) has formed a National Caretaker Committee to run affairs.

The caretakers will operate the party pending the conduct of a National Convention.

For the faction, the courts forbade the National Convention that held in Ibadan, Oyo State, last month, during which another faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde elected a National Executive Committee.

The caretaker decision was taken at the 104th NEC meeting of the party held in Abuja on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

The 13-member Caretaker Committee include:

  1. National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed
  2. National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu
  3. National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN)
  4. National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature
  5. Dr Kyari Grema
  6. Hon Janguda Haruna Mohammed
  7. Okechukwu Osuana
  8. Senator Nwogu Olaka
  9. Senator Sandy Onor
  10. Prof Adenike Ogunse
  11. Bisi Kolawole
  12. Engr Deji Doherty
  13. Dr Ibrahim Bala Aboki.

At the occasion, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, vowed that he and other founding leaders would not allow individuals who joined the party from other platforms to “kill” it through disobedience to court orders and parallel activities.

According to him, PDP, formed in 1998, would not be allowed to collapse due to personal interests.

Wike accused the Turaki-led faction of violating two Federal High Court judgments by conducting what he described as an “illegal convention,” referring to the Ibadan gathering that elected Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and others into the National Working Committee after the closure of Wadata Plaza.

“You went to a State High Court to sue INEC, asking that the convention must take place, and you got an ex parte order to override judgments of the Federal High Court. How do you disobey two final judgments and still claim leadership?” he said.

He faulted the faction for “running from court to court” while disregarding subsisting rulings.

“You had the convention without obeying the court, and now you are back asking a Federal High Court to recognise you. If INEC already recognises you, what exactly are you going to court for?” he asked.
