Thousands of angry residents in Plateau State today Monday morning flooded the streets in protest over the deadly Palm Sunday massacre of over 40 souls in Jos North Local Government Area.

Launching the gruesome attack on Sunday night, the suspected terrorists dressed in military uniforms, stormed Anguwan Rukuba and opened fire on residents.

“Over 40 dead in Plateau since Thursday,” a social media user, Kaptain Kush, wrote.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Hassan Mansur, also confirmed the attack, saying the number of abducted persons was still being verified.

He said a comprehensive report would be issued once full details were obtained.

“The command is yet to get details of the incident that happened in Kahir community, but a comprehensive report on the incident will made available after getting details of the incident,” he said.

Security operatives have since launched a search operation to track the fleeing attackers and rescue the abducted victims.

It was also gathered that the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, and Senator Sani Musa visited injured victims receiving treatment at the Kagarko General Hospital.

Today’s protest, which took place at the scene of the massacre in Anguwan Rukuba, was captured in a live TikTok stream.

The visibly agitated residents were seen chanting and demanding urgent government action, insisting that the imposition of a curfew was not a solution to the recurring killings.

“People are outside because of the attack that happened yesterday. They chased the security men because they are not doing any help right here,” one of the protesting residents said.

“Yesterday around 7pm to 8pm in the night, there was no light so these people (suspected terrorists) firing, as in straight shooting on rapid, a lot of people have to flee for their lives.”

The demonstrators accused authorities of failing to prevent repeated attacks in the area, describing the curfew as both “unnecessary” and “ineffective.”

However, the protest was soon disrupted as police moved in to disperse the crowd.

Eyewitnesses said the officers began chasing protesters while preparing to fire tear gas canisters.

The eyewitness added, “People are now running because the police want to shoot at us. They want to fire teargas.”

Gunmen invaded the community at about 8 p.m., shooting indiscriminately at people in what eyewitnesses described as a busy market area.

“This is my area. Gunmen came around 8 p.m. to Angwa Rukuba and shot randomly at people. It’s a market setting. People who saw them said they came in soldier khaki. They left many injured,” a resident, Nyam Isaac, had said.

Another eyewitness account circulating on social media also described the attack as sudden and brutal.

“Crisis in Jos: Gunmen attacked Angwa Rukuba Community, killing several residents in sporadic shooting. Tension gripped the area after the sudden attack,” the post read.

Amid the outrage, some Nigerians expressed frustration over what they described as the normalisation of mass killings in the country.

“Jos is under curfew tonight. Palm Sunday. Gunmen on motorcycles shot through a student community and killed at least 10 people. Over 40 dead in Plateau since Thursday,” a social media user, Kaptain Kush, wrote.

Killed As Bandits Open Fire On Wedding Guests In Kaduna by ogododo: 11:46am
Bandits have killed 13 people and abducted an unspecified number of guests after attacking a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A resident of the area, Shehu Bala, told our correspondent in a telephone interview on Monday that the attack occurred at about 11:47pm on Sunday.

He said the attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the wedding venue in large numbers and opened fire inside the hall, killing 13 persons on the spot.

According to him, several other guests sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries and were rushed to Kagarko General Hospital, while two victims with serious injuries were referred to Kaduna for further treatment.

“There are two of my friends who were inside the hall during the attack and they were also hit by bullets,” he said.

Bala added that it was difficult to determine the number of persons abducted due to the chaos that followed the attack.

A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, also confirmed the incident and listed the names of those killed.

He said the attackers operated for nearly an hour without resistance and also looted shops in the community, carting away food items, provisions and drugs from a chemist.

He added that the victims had already been buried, while no contact had been established with the abductors.

“The entire community was thrown into confusion as residents fled into the bush due to the sporadic shooting,” he said.
