A High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has pronounced the death sentence by hanging on a 48-year-old man, Olatide Temitope Emmanuel, for being guilty of murder and impersonation.

The convict was arraigned before Justice Jubril Aladejana on December 11, 2025, on a two-count charge related to the murder of a woman, Falade Bosede, and falsely presenting himself as a medical doctor.

According to the charge, Emmanuel murdered Bosede on June 24, 2019, at Odo Ikole Compound in Erinmope Ekiti.

He was also accused of impersonating a medical doctor on June 9, 2019, at Ajebamidele Street in Otun Ekiti.

Prosecutors said the offences contravened Sections 316 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

An eyewitness, Rev. Omotade, told the court that the deceased’s husband informed him that his wife had died during childbirth at Erinmope around 9:00 p.m.

When he arrived at the clinic, he saw the woman’s body on a stretcher with Emmanuel standing beside it.

He said a closer examination of the body showed that the surgery had been carried out unprofessionally, prompting him to alert the police in Otun Ekiti, who later began a full investigation.

In his defence, Emmanuel told the court he was a nursing apprentice at a hospital in Lagos State and had been issued a certificate after completing his training.

He said he later established his own clinic in Erinmope Ekiti in 2019.

He claimed the deceased approached him because she was due for childbirth and agreed, along with her husband, to undergo a caesarean section.

According to him, the surgery was successful and both mother and child were initially alive, but the woman later developed complications and died.

During the trial, the prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, presented seven witnesses and tendered several exhibits, including the defendant’s statements, medical reports, and photographs of the deceased.

The defendant testified in his own defence through his counsel, Adeyinka Opaleke, but called no additional witnesses.
