Senate Confirms 11 New Supreme Court Justices

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of 11 new justices of the Supreme Court, whose names were forwarded for approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, after their nomination by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

With the confirmation, the Supreme Court has now reached its full complement of 21 justices as mandated by law.

Those confirmed are:

  1. Haruna Tsammani (North-east) who chaired the Presidential Election Petition Court,
  2. Moore Adumein (South-south)
  3. Jummai Sankey (North-central)
  4. Chidiebere Uwa (South-east)
  5. Chioma Nwosu-Iheme (South-east)
  6. Obande Ogbuinya (South-east)
  7. Stephen Adah (North-central)
  8. Habeeb Abiru (South-west)
  9. JJamilu Tukur (North-west)
  10. Abubakar Umar (North-west)
  11. Mohammed Idris (North-central).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced their confirmation after they were cleared through a voice vote by the senators at the plenary.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Mohammed Monguno (APC, Borno), submitted the report of the screening before their Thursday confirmation.
