The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, has dismissed the rumour that he has “officially defected” to the new coalition under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Senator Usman, in a statement, on Monday, described his rumoured defection to the ADC coalition as mischievous, unfounded and a baseless fabrication oozing from the cesspit of the infantile imagination of those spreading it and their sponsors.

There had been widespread rumour in some quarters in Kaduna over the weekend that Senator Usman had defected to the new ADC coalition, as his two other colleagues representing Kaduna North and Kaduna South in the National Assembly were also being rumoured to be preparing to “make their intentions known shortly.”

He, however, described the masterminds of his rumoured defection from the PDP to the ADC coalition as “detractors not interested in any meaningful contribution to the development and progress of Kaduna Central Senatorial District, noting that “spreading such a cheap and politically motivated rumour about their political opponents is ingrained in their character.”

The lawmaker popularly called Senator LA by his teeming supporters and constituents in Kaduna Central Senatorial District, added, “This rumour of my defection from the PDP to the ADC is designed by my detractors to distract me and derail my various lofty programmes through which I have been delivering the real dividends of democracy to the good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the past two years.”

Senator Usman, however, stated that they had failed, as he had “seen through their shenanigans: their lies won’t stand! Their plot to create unnecessary political tension between me and the good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District has, indeed, woefully failed.”

He, therefore, affirmed his loyalty to the PDP.

PRESS STATEMENT

DISREGARD RUMOUR OF MY PURPORTED DEFECTION TO ADC, KADUNA CENTRAL SENATOR LAWAL ADAMU USMAN TELLS CONSTITUENTS

My attention has been drawn to the circulation of a fictitious and mischievous rumour making the rounds on social media alleging that I have formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have dignified these outright lies and fabricated untruth with any response, but the need to set the record straight has necessitated this rebuttal.

I want to categorically say that this unfounded rumour of my defection from the PDP to the ADC is totally false and a mere figment of the infantile imagination of the purveyors of the rumour and their sponsors. Those behind the spread of the rumour and their masterminds are detractors not interested in any meaningful contribution to the development and progress of Kaduna Central Senatorial District. Spreading such cheap and politically motivated rumour about their political opponents is ingrained in their character. This rumour of my defection from the PDP to the ADC is designed by my detractors to distract me and derail my various lofty programmes through which I have been delivering the real dividends of democracy to the good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the past two years. But I have seen through their shenanigans: their lies won’t stand! Their plot to create unnecessary political tension between me and the good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District has, indeed, woefully failed.

I firmly remain a loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party and I’m absolutely committed to the welfare, uplifting and progress of my good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

I therefore urge my good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District to disregard these fabricated lies about my defection from the PDP to the ADC. My very busy schedule as the Senator representing you all in the National Assembly, and as chairman and vice chairman of two major Senate committees, leaves no room and time for such frivolity and pedestrian politics being exhibited by those spreading the rumour of my purported defection. My primary concern and focus remain the delivery of all my campaign promises to justify the mandate you voluntarily gave me in the 2023 general elections to represent you in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

I therefore urge all my constituents and good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District to disregard these fabricated tales of my defection being bandied by our lazy political opponents, as we trudge along in our onerous task of making Kaduna Central Senatorial District enviable and a better place for all.
