Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, has publicly apologised during a live Sunday service in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, 28 December 2025, to his former lover, Nollywood Actress Doris Ogala.
Shortly afterwards, Doris Ogala, posted her response on her Facebook page.
“Chris Okafor, please don’t kneel. This was all I wanted. Apology accepted,” she wrote.
She had previously accused him of convincing her to abandon her fiancee for him and she aborted several pregnancies in the course of their relationship.
Doris had gone viral with her accusations in the wake of preparations for his wedding that took place some days ago.
He founded his church in November 2003.
He married Bessem Okafor until their separation in 2012. The marriage produced four children.
In 2014, Bessem publicly accused Chris of physical assault at their Magodo, Lagos home.
The televangelist’s recent apology, which was widely shared on social media, saw him kneel before his congregation as he sought forgiveness for actions he described as mistakes from his past.
In his apology, Okafor acknowledged that he had made a lot of mistakes and asked for prayers, forgiveness and understanding from both his congregation and the wider public.
Addressing the controversy directly, he said: “Judge me, but pray for me and forgive me. I am ready to make restitution to any man, any lady that I have offended.”
The minister specifically mentioned Actress Doris Ogala, saying: “To Doris Ogala, I also say sorry.”
He added that he was prepared to make amends and offer restitution where necessary.
Despite issuing the public apology, Pastor Okafor maintained that not all the allegations published against him were accurate.
“But everything that was said was not true. There were lies in most of them,” he said, while still expressing deep regret for any hurt his actions may have caused.
The apology followed intense public scrutiny and a series of social media exchanges after Ogala made serious claims concerning her relationship with the cleric.
It was reported that the Actress had accused Okafor of ending their long-term relationship and failing to fulfil promises of marriage, despite pressuring her to leave her former fiancée.
In the viral video of the service, he was seen kneeling before church members while seeking both forgiveness and prayer.
“But everything that was said is not true. Take note, everything that was said, never true. There are so many lies in most of the things that were said. But howbeit, I say, I am sorry to everyone that I have offended. To the Doris Ogala I also say sorry and I apologize to everyone that I have offended.
“And once again, I repeat this, I am ready to make restitution to anyone and any lady, anywhere or man I have offended, I am sorry, forgive me. I am not perfect, I have never been perfect.
“But I tell you, I’ve had a new beginning since the coming of these fathers of faith into my life.
“I am kneeling down before everyone and before the Church.”
He went down on his two knees and the church members rose as their senior pastor knelt down. He was on his knees for few minutes before rising and adding:
“I am asking you, forgive me. You can judge me. Pray for me.”
Ending the apology by declaring that he has turned a new leaf: “Now I present to you a brand new pastor. A brand new prophet. A great and global man of God.”
