Tension As Oshiomhole Forces Senate President Akpabio To Kill Natasha’s Point-Of-Order On Abortion Bill

A mild drama played out in the Senate on Tuesday as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, countered one another on an Abortion Amendment Bill.

Akpabio had rested the Bill due to the controversial abortion clause in the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

Natasha insisted on contributing, but was promptly shut down by the former Edo State Governor turned Edo North Senator Oshiomhole.

Natasha: Mr. Senate President, please may I speak. I’m a woman, and abortion has to do with women.

Akpabio: This (bill) has been stepped down in totality. Akpabio goes on to call Senator Natasha five times but got no response from her. He later said the bill had been stepped down, but if she had anything to say, she could go on.

Natasha: Steps up to speak on the abortion matter, but Oshiomhole countered almost immediately.

Oshiomhole: Rule of Order. Senator Natasha can’t speak on this issue because the matter has been concluded. Let’s follow the rules.
