The Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, capital of Anambra State, has expelled Miss Precious Chimamaka Goddy-Mbakwe, a student of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, who assaulted a lecturer on campus.
She attacked Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, who touched her arm and said “excuse me” as he walked past her in the course of her doing a TikTok recording along the corridor of a campus building.
The gentleman has his clothes torn as fellow students filmed Mbakwe tearing into the lecturer.
A viral video of the incident, circulating on social media on Tuesday, captured the moment the student lashed out at the lecturer, insisting she had been hit.
Another clip showed the lecturer raising his hands in apparent restraint while the student held onto him forcefully.
In the official expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by Acting Registrar Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, the university explained that the expulsion was based on the recommendation of the Students Disciplinary Committee.
The committee concluded that Precious’ behavior violated the institution’s disciplinary guidelines, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
The incident, which went viral after a video surfaced online, involved Precious attacking Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the department, during a confrontation that occurred while she was recording a TikTok video on campus. The altercation triggered public outrage and led to calls for immediate disciplinary action.
According to the expulsion letter, the decision is effective immediately, and Precious is instructed to leave the university campus and return any university property in her possession.
The letter read in part, “The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theater and Film Studies, which was found to be a gross misconduct and violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
“Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The expulsion takes immediate effect.
“You are expected to vacate the University premises immediately and return any University property in your possession.”
