Protégé of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and ex-Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, alias “MC Oluomo” has been elected National President of the body.
His archrival, Tajudeen Agbede, emerged as the Vice-President of union for the South-West of the Union, while Akeem Adeosun emerged as a Trustee.
Reports said MC emerged unanimously at the election that took place during the NURTW’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference for Zone 2 Council of the Union held in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.
Agbede, Chairman of the defunct National Caretaker Committee of the NURTW and MC Oluomo had been at loggerheads over the leadership of the union.
However, Tinubu’s emerging as Nigerian President appears to have added fillip to the emergence of MC.
The Lagos government had dissolved the local NURTW and made MC Chairman of a newly-formed Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee, following his suspension by the national leadership of the union March 2022.
At the Oshogbo national delegates conference this weekend, Akinsanya’s nomination was made by the Ondo State Chairman of the Union and seconded by the Ekiti State Chairman, marking a significant moment for the Union.
In his acceptance speech, Akinsanya appealed to all members of the union to forget the past divisions and work together in unity.
