Teaching staff of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) today, Wednesday March 11, 2026, have embarked on an indefinite strike over what they described as “amputated” salaries for January and February 2026.
UNILAG’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter, said the school management failed to implement the 2025 agreement reached between the Federal Government and the union, which took effect on January 1, 2026.
“We are withdrawing our services from tomorrow (Wednesday) morning until our salaries are fully paid,” said Prof. IdouKeinde, Chairman of the ASUU UNILAG chapter.
The union alleged that the university paid “amputated” salaries for January and February, withholding the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) for some members of staff.
The strike affects both the Akoka and Idi-Araba campuses of the university, with lecturers insisting they will not resume work until their full salaries are paid.
The university management, however, expressed disappointment over the strike, stating that the appropriate procedures were not followed and that discussions were ongoing to resolve the matter.
“The management appeals to all members of the university community to remain calm and continue with academic activities as discussions with the ASUU executive continue,” said Mrs. Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head of the Communication Unit.
