Officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, today Monday sealed off the National Headquarters of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The FCT administration had lamented that over N6 billion had been lost as revenue due to non-compliance by some property owners to pay their ground rents for over 10 years.
Also affected today were the building being occupied by Access Bank, Wuse Market, Abuja, reportedly owing 34 years Ground Rent and Total Filling Station, Wuse Zone 5.
On Sunday, the FCTA announced its intention to reclaim all items of landed property affected by the revocation of 4,794 land titles due to non-payment of ground rent spanning 10 to 43 years.
The Minister has faced accusations of listing the PDP structure for revocation along with about 4,793 others because of his lingering battle with members of the party.
In defence of PDP appearing on the list, Wike had said there was nothing political about the move and it was a shame that a party in power for 16 years could not perfect requisite land documents.
The officials arrived at the Wadata Plaza where the PDP’s national secretariat is located in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja and sealed it at about 2.05pm.
In March this year, the list of land titles in default of payment of Ground Rent was compiled and sent out by the FCTA.
The agency, however, gave a 21-day grace to defaulters to make payment.
Following the expiration of the grace given, the agency this morning began the sealing of erring structures which includes the structure accommodating the PDP secretariat.
