A lady food seller, identified simply as Ammaye, has been lynched to death by angry youths over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attack reportedly took place at Kasuwan Garba after an earlier dispute in Igwama community.
Eyewitnesses said Ammaye, a Muslim and well-known food vendor, quarreled with a young man said to be her nephew.
The man allegedly joked about marrying her to “fulfil the Sunnah,” prompting a response from her that some residents interpreted as blasphemous.
The matter was escalated to the District Head of Kasuwan Garba.
During interrogation, she reportedly repeated the statement, which further enraged locals.
The District Head handed her over to security operatives, but a crowd of agitated youths insisted on her immediate execution.
Despite efforts by the security personnel, the mob overpowered them and stoned her to death.
Confirming the incident, Chairman of Mariga Local Government, Abbas Adamu, said normalcy has been restored to the area.
