Nigeria’s Super Eagles this afternoon managed to hold Zimbabwe to a 1-1 draw in their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Nigeria had hoped to bounce back from their opening day draw against Lesotho, but the Zimbabwe team came with a vision to maximise their chance against the Super Eagles.
The match was played on the neutral ground of Rwanda.
Zimbabwe drew first blood, when it hammered in a goal in the 26th minute through Walter Musona.
Musona takes a perfect 30-meter free kick to drive it into the corner and beat Nigeria’s goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who keeps for Omonia FC in Cyprus.
It was not until the second half that the lack-lustre Super Eagles in the 67th minute drew level through a strike by Kelechi Iheanacho.
Coach Peseiro made three changes at halftime, including Boniface, Iheanacho and Osayi-Samuel, with Oina, Onyeka and Tella out.
Calvin Bassey took a Yellow Card.
