Nigeria’s President has approved the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, a Federal-owned institution in his name to be established in Gwarinpa, one of the largest estates in the nation’s capital.

Officially designated as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, the higher institution is aimed at promoting technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training in alignment with the national education policy.

In a letter dated January 16, 2025, addressed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the federal government’s approval of the new polytechnic.

The letter, personally signed by Dr. Alausa, requested the FCT Minister to propose locations for the institution’s temporary and permanent sites in Gwarinpa.

Dr. Alausa revealed that a technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) would visit and inspect the suggested sites.

Final approval will be granted based on the team’s recommendations.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, lauded President Tinubu for his initiative.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for playing a pivotal role in realizing the polytechnic.

Maikalangu described the polytechnic as a “dream come true” for residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), adding that it would foster growth and development in the region.

He also highlighted the historic appointment of Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, an FCT native, as the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.

Jisalo previously represented the AMAC/Bwari Constituency in the House of Representatives for two terms.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic is anticipated to provide significant educational and economic benefits to the FCT and its residents.
