US President Donald Trump has set today Saturday as deadline for imposing 25 percent tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada unless the countries clamp down on illegal migration and shipments of the deadly opioid fentanyl into the United States.
Trump has not exempted crude imports from the plan, which will hurt consumers, the energy industry and national security, the oil industry has warned.
Canada and Mexico are the top sources of US crude imports, together accounting for around one-quarter of the oil US refiners process into fuels such as gasoline and heating oil, according to the US Department of Energy.
