ADC South-West Elders Raise Alarm On Strange Names Uploaded On INEC Portal As Party Candidates

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE SOUTH-WEST ELDERS COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (ADC)

The South-West Elders Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held its strategic meeting to review the state of the Party in the region, assess recent political developments, and chart a clear roadmap towards the Osun State Governorship Election and the 2027 General Elections.

After exhaustive deliberations, the Committee resolved as follows:

The Committee observed that the forthcoming Osun State Governorship Election must be regarded as a critical milestone in the Party’s preparation for the 2027 General Elections and not merely as an isolated electoral contest.

The Committee resolved to undertake a comprehensive review of the recent Ekiti State Governorship Election in order to identify lessons, strengthen existing structures, address identified shortcomings and improve the Party’s electoral performance in future elections.

The Committee reaffirmed the imperative of unity, discipline, internal democracy and reconciliation within the Party.

It therefore called for the immediate resolution of all outstanding disputes through credible reconciliation mechanisms in the overall interest of the Party.

The Committee strongly condemned the growing polarisation of State Executive Committees, the unilateral imposition of individuals into Party offices, and all tendencies capable of creating parallel structures or “micro parties within the Party.” Such practices, the Committee noted, are inconsistent with the Party’s Constitution and constitute serious threats to its growth, cohesion and electoral prospects.

The Committee reaffirmed its confidence in and recognition of the legacy State Chairmen across the South-West and resolved to continue working with them pending any lawful decision of the appropriate organs of the Party, except where any Chairman has voluntarily ceased to be a member of the Party.

The Committee recognised the strategic importance of the offices of the Deputy National Chairman (Politics) and the National Secretary as the two National Executive positions presently occupied by representatives of the South-West. It urged both offices to work in close harmony, mutual respect and collaboration in order to strengthen the Party at the national level.

The Committee advised the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) to disregard the claims of individuals or groups currently parading themselves as South-West Zonal Officers.

The Committee resolved that, following wide consultations and in strict conformity with the Constitution of the Party and the principles of fairness, equity and justice, the South-West shall constitute its authentic Zonal Executive Committee and forward same to the National Leadership for approval at the appropriate time.

The Committee expressed grave concern over reports of the uploading of strange names, non-qualified members and individuals maintaining dual party membership onto the INEC portal as candidates of the Party for the 2027 General Elections.

It called on the National Leadership to urgently investigate and rectify these irregularities to safeguard the Party against avoidable litigation, internal crises and possible sanctions or disqualification by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Committee resolved that the Party should immediately strengthen its organisational structures from the ward to the national level, establish a South-West Regional Strategy Committee, commence early recruitment and training of polling unit agents and legal teams, intensify youth and women mobilisation, deploy modern digital communication strategies, and institute measurable performance indicators for all State Chapters.

The South-West Elders Committee reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the unity, constitutional order and democratic ideals of the African Democratic Congress.

The Committee called on all members to place the collective interest of the Party above personal ambitions and remain focused on building a united, disciplined and formidable political platform capable of providing credible leadership for Nigeria.

The Committee expressed confidence that, by drawing the appropriate lessons from recent electoral experiences, strengthening internal cohesion and remaining faithful to the Party’s Constitution, the ADC would be well positioned for success in the Osun State Governorship Election and the 2027 General Elections.

The meeting concluded with a resolution to reconvene in two weeks to review progress on the implementation of these resolutions and consider additional strategic matters affecting the Party.
