Nigeria Bleeding, Citizens Suffering And Angry Over Harsh, IMF-Driven Policies, Says Gov Fintiri

Adamawa State’s Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has condemned the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies for inflicting severe hardship on Nigerians.

Speaking at the North-East Zonal meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Reconciliation Committee in Bauchi at the weekend, Fintiri voiced his concerns over ordinary Nigerians’ dwindling welfare.

He said that the country’s leadership should not pander to the unrealistic policies of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and like-minded foreign institutions.

Fintiri warned that the continued implementation of ineffective policies would only deepen the suffering of Nigerians and further disconnect the government from the people.

“Nigeria is bleeding. We are suffering. There is too much anger, and the Federal Government’s economic policy is not working,” Fintiri declared, highlighting the frustration citizens face due to rising inflation, unemployment, and a declining standard of living.

He called for an urgent shift in economic strategy, urging the Federal Government to reconsider its approach to managing the nation’s economy.

“Whatever will make us cry must not be part of your policy because the country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community,” Fintiri added.

The Governor argued that foreign-driven economic models were not suitable for Nigeria’s unique socio-economic realities.

According to him, government policies should prioritize local needs over external economic prescriptions.
