Princess Henrietta Kyenshak Geoffrey was travelling with the 22 Kano athletes who recently died in a bus accident.
She travelled with officials, journalists and fellow athletes from Kano to Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, and competed with the team.
They won 5 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze.
After the games in Ogun, it was customary for her to travel back to Kano with them to get her payment.
In fact, she was travelling with them in the bus back to Kano, when the coach informed her that the pay would not be immediately available.
At that point, she decided to be dropped off in Kaduna to see someone.
That detour to Kaduna saved her from the crash that would most likely have ended her life.
Of those travelling on that ill-fated bus, 22 perished in the crash within Kano State, just a few kilometres to their final destination in the capital.
