In an unprecedented show of inclusivity, the Katsina State Government has turned to Christian clerics as part of its strategy to foster peace and curb insecurity, approving monthly stipends for pastors across the state to encourage continuous prayers for stability and progress.
The gesture, announced by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Katsina State Chapter, also came alongside Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda’s approval for the recruitment of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) teachers in public schools.
In a statement signed by CAN Secretary, Dr. Musa Daniel Danladi, and issued on behalf of the State Chairman, Very Rev. Fr. Richard Shuaibu Liti, the association hailed the governor’s decision as a landmark step towards religious inclusivity and moral development.
Dr. Musa said the recruitment of CRS teachers, a longstanding demand of the association, will help improve Christian students’ academic performance while instilling sound moral values to make them better citizens.
“We are sincerely grateful for the Governor’s gesture of paying stipends to pastors, which will motivate the clergy to keep interceding for the peace and progress of Katsina State,” Dr. Musa said, expressing hope that the initiative will outlast the Governor’s tenure.
The association urged qualified Christians in the state to apply online for the CRS teaching positions and contribute to the moral and academic upliftment of the next generation.
