Hon. (Alhaji) Rahman Owokoniran, a leading light in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has rubbished insinuations that the soul of the party depended on one individual, saying such an assessment was mischievous and had no backing in reality.

Countering the claim made on Channels TV by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Owokoniran noted that ADC’s relevance was not rooted in just one individual, “be it Atiku, Obi, Tambuwal, Amaechi, El-Rufai, Mark or Aregbesola.”

According to him, the narrative that ADC’s relevance depends on presenting one individual as a presidential candidate is incorrect and misleading.

He said: “ADC is stronger than that, deeper than that, and more united than many enemies of progress think.

“ADC is a brand, whose relevance is already evident in its expanding grassroots structures, growing national membership, and rising appeal among youths, professionals, women, and reform-minded Nigerians.”

He praised the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) nationwide, describing the party as united, disciplined, and strategically focused, contrary to recent claims suggesting otherwise.

According to Owokoniran, ADC today is driven by collective leadership and shared national purpose, not by dependency on any single political figure.

He commended ADC leaders at the national, state, and grassroots levels for placing Nigeria’s future above personal ambition, noting that the party’s internal consultations are ongoing, structured, and guided by democratic principles.

While acknowledging the contributions and popularity of notable political figures in Nigeria, Owokoniran stressed that ADC is not a one man platform and will not reduce its national mission to the availability or endorsement of any single individual.

“Great individuals may strengthen parties, but strong parties are built by institutions, ideology, and collective sacrifice.” he asserts.

He notes further that ADC is deliberately building a political institution that will outlive personalities.

He further stated that the experience of the 2023 elections across different parties has shown that long-term political success cannot be sustained on personality appeal alone, but on organization, consistency, and internal democracy.

He also observes that ADC is not desperate for relevance. According to him, “We are building relevance the right way through ideas, structures, and people.

Owokoniran reassured Nigerians that ADC’s leadership remains fully united, focused, and committed to offering a credible alternative in 2027 and beyond, adding that all decisions regarding candidates will emerge from transparent, inclusive, and democratic processes within the party.

He said that reaffirming ADC’s readiness to engage all Nigerians who share its vision, while making it clear that ADC’s future will be determined by its members not by external commentary.

“ADC is united,” he affirms. “ADC is focused. ADC is ready. ADC – Our Hope For a Greater Nigeria.”
