The Nigerian Press Council, NPC, has expressed sadness over the passing of another media icon and co-founder of the Newswatch Magazine, Yakubu Mohammed.
In a statement in Abuja by the Council’s Director, Research and Documentation, Mr. Dan Ede, the Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. Dili Ezughah, describes the demise of Yakubu Mohammed, barely two months after the death of another co-founder of the Newswatch Magazine, Dan Agbese, as a terrible blow on Nigerian journalism.
Dr. Ezughah, while saluting the vision, courage and professionalism of the founders of the Newswatch Magazine in the 1980s, said the foursome of Dele Giwa, Ray Ekpu, Dan Agbese and Yakubu Mohammed launched a distinct epoch in the Nigerian media industry with their topnotch investigative journalism.
The Executive Secretary remarks that the gradual atrophy of this class of celebrated media icons leaves a huge vacuum in the industry, at a time their wealth of experience and down -to- earth professionalism are needed to address the issue of dwindling integrity in journalism.
Dr. Ezughah condoles with the immediate family of Yakubu Mohammed, the Kogi State Government and the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Signed
Dan Ede
Director, Research and Documentation.
