The Federal Government has officially opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

The announcement was confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who disclosed that the application process has commenced.

“FG has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) overseas scholarships,” the post read.

The scholarship scheme is targeted at MSc and PhD candidates in oil and gas–related disciplines. Successful applicants will enjoy comprehensive benefits, including full tuition fees, return flight tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.

According to PTDF, the overseas scholarship programme is designed to provide beneficiaries with world-class training, access to advanced research facilities, and exposure to global best practices, while strengthening local capacity in Nigeria’s energy sector.

PhD candidates admitted into UK universities will participate in a split-site programme, conducting research between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies (CPES), Kaduna, and partner institutions such as Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION CRITERIA

The PTDF noted that the scholarship is highly competitive, with applicants assessed based on academic excellence, quality of research proposals, professional memberships, and relevance to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

MSc applicants must possess a minimum of a Second Class Lower (2:2) degree from a recognised institution and must have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

PhD applicants are required to submit a comprehensive research proposal aligned with the fund’s strategic objectives.

HOW TO APPLY

Interested and qualified candidates are advised to submit their applications online via the official PTDF portal at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng.

The deadline for applications is February 27, 2026.
