Former Jigawa State governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has urged party stakeholders to embrace the caretaker structure backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and pursue reconciliation in order to stabilise the party.

Lamido made the appeal while speaking with journalists during a Ramadan Iftar with executives and members of the PDP in Bamaina, his hometown in Jigawa State.

He described Wike as a politically shrewd figure who capitalised on the leadership vacuum that emerged after the tenure of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) expired.

“Wike is somebody who is very, very shrewd. I think he saw through all this and was able to put up a caretaker committee. By the time the tenure of the existing NWC elapsed, the only structure available was the one supported by Wike,” Lamido said.

He noted that despite existing disagreements within the party, members must adopt a pragmatic approach by engaging all stakeholders, including Wike, in the interest of unity.

“Even though many of us may not like Wike or may be in disagreement with him, we must invite him in the spirit of Nigeria, in the spirit of brotherhood and PDP sisterhood, and in the spirit of reconciliation,” he said.
