POLICE PRO ALIYU GIWA REPORTS THE VISIT BY FIVE PREDECESSORS TO THE NEW INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE IGP TUNJI DISU
Support from five former Inspector General of Police’s is highly significant.
Actions often carry more weight than titles.
On Tuesday, 31 March 2026, five former Inspectors General of Police, IGP Aliyu Attah, IGP Mike Okiro, IGP Ogbonna Onovo, IGP Suleiman Abba, and IGP Usman Alkali Baba, visited Force Headquarters to express their support for IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM. Their visit was very purposeful.
They understand the demands of this office, having faced its challenges firsthand. They know the sleepless nights, difficult decisions, and responsibility of leading the Force under national scrutiny.
Despite these challenges, they offered their experience, mentorship, and a clear message: he does not lead alone. Their advice was direct and practical: sustain reforms, lead with intelligence, protect your officers, and never take the trust of the Nigerian people for granted.
The IGP received their guidance with humility and demonstrated confidence in his role. He recognises he is building on decades of institutional history shaped by his predecessors and views this not as a burden, but as a privilege.
The foundation is strong, and the path forward is clear.
