Sister Reveals Details Of His Last Day
The sister of Mene Ogidi, the 28-year-old man allegedly killed during a police operation in Effurun, Delta State, has shared an emotional account of the events leading to his death.
According to her, Mene had informed the family he was going out to collect a waybill on behalf of a friend in Sapele who asked for his help.
Before leaving the house, he mentioned that his phone was faulty and requested to use their mother’s phone. She gave it to him, and he inserted his SIM card. Using the phone, he contacted the friend, who then sent him money for transportation.
He left shortly after.
As the day progressed into evening, the family became worried when they could no longer reach him.
Calls made to the number he had used to contact his friend went unanswered.
Not long after, they received information that the police had shot someone in the area. The family rushed to the scene, only to discover that the victim was Mene.
By the time they arrived, he was already dead.
According to the family, police claimed a gun was found in the vehicle he entered. However, they insist Mene was unarmed and had only gone out to collect a waybill.
They also alleged that officers prevented them from getting close to his body before taking it away.
The sister added that if not for a video recording of the incident, the family might never have known what truly happened and could have continued searching for him without answers.
