ADC’s Owokoniran Salutes Catholic Bishops For Speaking Truth To Power, Says Tinubu Must Face the Reality Of Nigerians Hardship
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) South-West, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, has described Cardinal John Onaiyekan’s account of the recent meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Catholic bishops as a true reflection of the hardship and frustration confronting millions of Nigerians.
Owokoniran said that when respected religious leaders told the President that Nigeria was bleeding, the appropriate response would not be to deny their concerns but to act decisively to address the prevailing issues.
He said: “The soaring cost of food, worsening insecurity, youth unemployment, collapsing purchasing power, and the daily struggle of ordinary Nigerians are undeniable realities. Government cannot solve problems it refuses to acknowledge.”
He commended the Catholic bishops for speaking truth to power and urged Tinubu to listen to the cries of Nigerians instead of painting a false picture of progress knowing fully well that Nigeria is bleeding.
Owokoniran assured Nigerians that the ADC Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, and the Vice Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, were committed to rescuing the nation through competent leadership, economic recovery, job creation, improved security, institutional reforms, and policies that place the welfare of the people above politics.
“Nigeria deserves leaders who listen, leaders who tell the truth, and leaders who solve problems,” he submitted.
