The Southwest ADC Concerned Stakeholders’ Forum convened in Ibadan, Oyo State, comprising distinguished party leaders from Oyo, Lagos, Ondo and Osun States, with apologies from Ekiti State owing to ongoing reconciliation efforts and no representation from Ogun State.

The Forum deliberated extensively on the state of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Southwest and resolved as follows:

  1. Purpose and Commitment

The Forum affirmed that the meeting was not convened to undermine or rival the existing leadership of the party in the zone, but as a sincere and strategic intervention by loyal party members committed to repositioning ADC for growth, unity and electoral success in the Southwest.

  1. Rejection of Marginalisation of the Southwest

The Forum rejected the current docile status of the Southwest within the party and declared the zone’s resolve to be proactive, visible, and influential in the national affairs of ADC.

  1. Membership Registration and Re-validation

The Forum called on the National Leadership to urgently make public the composition of the Membership Registration and Re-validation Committee for the six Southwest states. This will enable proper ward-level registration of members and end the present ad-hoc arrangements being adopted in some states.

  1. Issuance of New Membership Cards

The Forum resolved that all Southwest members must be registered and issued new ADC membership cards, as opposed to the obsolete cards still in circulation in some states.

  1. Representation in National Offices

The Forum observed with concern that while other geopolitical zones have between 12 and 14 national officers, the Southwest has only two. The Forum therefore demanded the immediate filling of national offices allocated to the Southwest and expressed readiness to work with the National Leadership in distributing these positions equitably among the six states.

  1. Ondo State Office Challenge

The Forum expressed deep concern over the situation in Ondo State where substantial funds have reportedly been paid as rent for a party office that is yet to be occupied. The Forum urged the National Leadership to urgently intervene, while the Forum undertakes to work towards an amicable resolution.

  1. Monthly Stakeholders’ Engagement

The Forum resolved to meet monthly to monitor developments, sustain momentum and deepen the organisational structures of ADC in the Southwest.

  1. Support for Party Chairmen

The Forum resolved to intensify efforts to reassure all State Chairmen, Local Government Chairmen and Ward Chairmen that the Forum is a supportive platform aimed at strengthening their leadership and not a mechanism for displacing them.

  1. Confidence in National Leadership

The Forum reaffirmed its confidence in the National Leadership of ADC and pledged continued loyalty and cooperation in the collective quest to build a formidable party in the Southwest and across Nigeria.
