Those who are known to have died in the course of the Wednesday match of the Super Eagles against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana included:
- Former Member of the House of Representatives who represented the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, Dr Cairo Ojougboh;
- A Sales Representative with Nestle Plc, Mikail Osundiji, who reportedly slumped and died in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
- An Anambra State-born businessman, Chief Osondu Nwoye, from Amanuke, in Awka North Local Government Area, who resided in Abidjan.
- Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, Malete, Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi; and
- NYSC member named Samuel.
