President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today Tuesday coffered national honours on all members of the Super Eagles squad that came runners up and won silver medals at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Ivory Coast.
He also allotted to each a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as well as a residential flat apartment.
For each player and official, the tally came to:
- MON National Award
- One residential flat
- One plot of Land in the Federal Capital Territory.
Nigeria lost 2-1 to hosts Cote d’Ivoire in the finals on Sunday.
Had the Eagles won, it would have been the country’s fourth AFCON title and massive relief for a nation grappling with crippling economic hardships.
At the reception held for the team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, Tinubu honoured the players and officials of the silver medal-winning squad with the Member of the Order of Niger (MON).
He praised the team’s resilience, sportsmanship and can-do attitude.
He also thanked the players for lifting the nation’s spirit with their performance at AFCON.
Afterwards, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, presented members of the team with forms to fill out and claim their gifts of lands and apartments.
