APC, PDP Challenge Gov Adeleke’s Re-Election At Tribunal
Osun State’s Governor Ademola Adeleke has had his August 15 re-election challenged at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal after the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) filed separate petitions against his declaration as winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Both APC and PDP’s petitions were displayed on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo today Monday.
The development came after the Secretary of the tribunal, Pefe Belemore, confirmed that petitions had been filed to challenge the outcome of the election.
Adeleke was re-elected for a second term with 511,067 total votes against the runner-up, the All Progressives Congress, APC’s Bola Oyebanji who secured 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over his closest challenger.
The election recorded a total of 1,005,800 votes cast, comprising 985,079 valid votes and 20,721 rejected votes.
Other political parties that recorded votes were: ADC 17,180, ADP 2,946, ZLP 2,482, AA 2,308, APGA 1,474, AAC1,458, YPP 534, APM 234, SDP155, APP 114, PP 111, NLPP 118 and PRP 83.
The APC and PDP are challenging the outcome of the election, which returned Adeleke for another term in office.
The display of the petitions is expected to pave the way for the service of processes on the parties and subsequent proceedings before the tribunal.
The APC’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
