The Court of Appeal has upheld the judgement of the Federal High Court, delivered on 4th October 2024, which restrains the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (commonly known as VIO) from stopping, impounding, or confiscating vehicles on public roads, as well as imposing fines on motorists.

A three-member panel of Justices of the appellate court, Abuja Division, delivering judgement on Thursday, resolved all three issues raised for determination against the appellant, the Directorate of Road Traffic Services.

Justice Oyejoju Oyebiola Oyewumi, who read the lead judgment, ruled that the appeal lacked merit.

The court also awarded costs of ₦1 million against the appellant and in favour of the respondent, rights advocate and public interest lawyer, Abubakar Marshal.
