The country’s two major security institutions appear to be turning different ears to the raving social media slogan that the youth and the streets have adopted for Nigerians in 2024.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is warming that the ‘No Gree For Anybody’ slogan being used by youths can lead to crisis in the country.

However, the Nigerian Army, seeing it in a more positive light, has said it should guide citizens to dig in in the fight against insurgency and terrorism by non-state actors.

The Defence Headquarters asked Nigerians not to allow terrorists to dictate the pace this year 2024.

While speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, January 11, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, said: “Make Nigerians no gree for terrorists this year. You see something, you say something and we assure them of doing something.”

Buba spoke in pidgin.

During a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja, Muyiwa Adejobi, force spokesperson, had said intelligence reports show that the catchphrase is capable of plunging Nigeria into a crisis of monumental proportions.

Adejobi said although the catchphrase is being seen as “normal talk”, those in the security community view it as a “dangerous” slogan.

“The new slogan for 2024 for young people is ‘no dey gree for anybody’,” Adejobi said.

“We have been informed from our intelligence that this is coming from the retributionary sector that might likely cause problems across the country.

“No dey gree for anybody is being seen as just normal talk. In the security community, we have seen it as a very dangerous slogan that can trigger crises.

“Therefore, Nigerians should be wary of those who are out to cause chaos and internal anarchy in Nigeria and they should report any suspicious gathering, association and meeting to the nearest police station in their localities.

“The identities of the whistle-blower would kept in utmost secrecy.”
