Arts Minister Joins Nollywood Stars To Honour Olu Jacobs At Night Of Tributes
Nollywood stars gathered in Lagos to honour veteran Actor Olu Jacobs at a Night of Tributes celebrating his life and remarkable career, following his death on September 16, 2026, aged 84.
The ceremony held on Wednesday at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island, bringing together Actors, filmmakers, family members, friends and industry veterans.
Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa attended the ceremony, alongside Nollywood stars like: Richard Mofe-Damijo, Funke Akindele, Sola Sobowale, Jide Kosoko and Adebayo Salami.
Others included Hilda Dokubo, Segun Arinze, Rita Dominic, Emeka Ike, Femi Adebayo, Saka and Madam Saje.
A candlelight procession formed part of the tribute programme as colleagues and admirers remembered Jacobs’ contribution to Nigerian entertainment.
The gathering gave members of Nigeria’s entertainment industry an opportunity to reflect on Jacobs’ decades-long career.
Jacobs worked across theatre, television and film during a career spanning more than five decades.
He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before working in British theatre and television.
He later returned to Nigeria and became one of the defining figures of the country’s film industry.
Jacobs and his wife, Actress Joke Silva, also co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.
His contribution to the performing arts earned him several honours, including the national award of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic.
The Night of Tributes forms part of the final farewell programme announced by Jacobs’ family.
The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 2, at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The service will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a private interment./IEXCLUSIVENEWS
